The regional coordination meeting of experts and specialists in the social sciences and humanities in the Maghreb region “Transformations and Stakes”, was held in a triangular partnership between the International Network for the Study of Arab Societies, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the German Hanns Seidel Foundation at the headquarters of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization in Tunisia during the period from 16-18 November 2021. Experts focused on the importance of introducing new research tools to understand current social realities and phenomena.They also addressed new research trends in the social sciences in the last ten years. The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations that constitute a scientific action plan for the coming years, especially the need to monitor the transformations in the Maghreb region and strengthen the capacities of researchers in the social sciences and humanities in the Maghreb region. In addition to studying the representations of identity at its various levels (societal, religious, and cognitive), and conducting studies on youth and migration in the Maghreb region.Experts stressed the need to strengthen networking in the field of scientific research between institutions, research centers and researchers, and to activate the roles of social and human sciences institutions. Experts agreed on the need to turn to qualitative studies instead of quantitative studies, the necessity of attending social sciences in many disciplines of cultural and social anthropology, and promoting the ethical aspect in the digital field.
